In a printer's life span a single printer might go through tens of cartridges, more if using color instead of B/W. PGST Campus utilizes around 100 laser printers, do the math and that generates a lot of spent toner, waste toner cartridges, and spare parts. One would think these parts are immediately thrown away, but we try our best to recycle every component possible using a variety of channels depending on printer type, condition, and contractual obligations.
Lexmark Toner
Lexmark LCCP toner (green box with folding tabs) is incredibly easy to dispose of. When changing out new toner for old, be sure to remove and retain the packing slip included with the new toner. Lexmark's Amazon bought toner comes with a prepaid UPS slip, so after replacing a cartridge simply:
- Place spent cartridge in the wrapping that the new one came in
- Reseal the package with the two push down cardboard latches
- Fill out included mailer with PGST's information

- Wrap once with packing tape to ensure safe shipping
- Take to Accounting's shipping door and tell them "Prepaid UPS toner return"
What if the new toner didn't come with a shipping label?
Occasionally Lexmark forgets to include the packing label. Don't panic!
Lexmark (now owned by Xerox) operates the LCCP shipping label generator. Fill out this form with the following steps

- Enter the 7 digit part number first, then click the magnifying glass. IT WILL NOT PROGRESS UNLESS YOU DO THAT
- Insert company information, just like the physical mailer only it prints it for you
- Click process shipment
- Print it out
NOTE: The print dialog will immediately reappear after clicking print, so you only need to press it once, or else you'll print two copies of the same shipping label. - Trim the label down and attach it with packing tape, ensure the bar code and return address are covered by tape.
- Bring to Accounting's shipping bay, describe as "Prepaid UPS Toner Return"
Alternatively, spent toner can be placed in the large bins with Canon toner, as they will take both types.
Canon Toner
Canon toner is incredibly easy to return. Pacific Automation utilizes the Konica Minolta Clean Planet Program which delivers bulk mailers for toner. Theoretically, the LCCP toner can be sent here too, but LCCP comes with its own mailer which allows them to be remanufactured. Simply fill up a green clean planet box and send it to accounting when full. They already have the shipping label pre-affixed so they're super simple.
